Charles “Wally” Martin, 87, died peacefully at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 9:50 AM.
Wally was born August 31, 1931 to the late William and Anna Lee Martin in Providence where he resided his entire life.
He opened Martin Service Station on West Main Street December 4, 1956. The service station later moved “The Head Quarters” across the street when he retired. If one wanted to buy/sell/trade or catch up on the local gossip this was the place to go. Wally prided himself in being a Master Mason for 67 years he was a member of Providence Lodge #148. He also attended Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Providence.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Crystal Joyce. They had 5 children Sherry Martin of Danville, Ronnie(Beverly), Wayne(Lisa), Anna(Roland), and Michael all of Providence 1 brother Curtis Martin of Benton 6 grandchildren Aaron Raitiere, Kathryn Raitiere, Tyler Martin, Kaylei Hoskins, Lily Martin and Emma Martin and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay with Bro. Mack Gibson officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery with Masonic Rites at the graveside. Pallbearers will be Billy Martin, Jim Overby, Ronnie Martin, Wayne Martin, Roland Abrahamson and Michael Martin Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenny Gobin, Jamie Fowler, Bo Utley and Curtis Perry. Visitation will be Friday, April 12, 2019 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday 11:00 AM till service time at the funeral home.
