John "Johnny" Beckner, 83, of Clay passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville.

Johnny was born in Crittenden County on June 22, 1942 to the late Charles and Lila Beckner.

Johnny was a coal miner at Island Creek Coal Company; he was also a self-employed logger and a farmer.  His hobbies included hunting and fishing; he particularly enjoyed turkey hunting.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Sharon in 2009; several brothers and a sister; and a great-grandchild Mitchell.

Survivors include a daughter Jo Ann Hopson (Keith) of Providence; 3 Sons Ronnie Beckner (Lisa) of Clay, Chuck Beckner (Deana) of Marion, Joseph Beckner (Christy) of Eddyville; 5 grandchildren Brad Beckner, Derek Beckner, Isaiah Beckner, Tabetha Hopson, Veronica Pompell; 5 great-grandchildren Amelia Pompell, Jasmine Hopson, Kimberly Shelton, Kaden Shelton and NaiZayah Bell.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 16, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay with Bro. Robert Woodring, Bro. Ross Atwell, and Pastor Keith Hopson officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Blackford.  Visitation will be Friday 9:00 AM till service time at the funeral home.
