Monica Dawn Papineau, 84 of Clay passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023 at her residence.
Monica was born in Ashkum, IL on September 28, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Joe and LaVaun Olson Demers. She married the late Gerald Emile Papineau on June 2, 1956 in L'Erable, IL in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She is survived by 2 daughters Linda Rich Hamilton (Gary) of Clay, Valerie Travis of Eddyville and 1 son Gerald Paul Papineau (Lori) of Clay, 4 brothers Donald Demers of Kankakee, IL, Bill Demers (Vicki) of Apison, TN, John Demers (Mary) of Jacksonville, FL, Dr. Gerald Demers (Cynthia) of Union Grove, WI, 3 sisters Loretta Dundas (Jim) of Clifton, IL, Theresa Lukow (Ron) of Chabanse, IL, Anita Lamont (Dane) of Clifton, IL, her only living uncle Leonard Demers of Clifton, IL, 12 grandchildren Josh Rich, Rachel Wingo, Rebecca Braden, Mandy Travis Brown, Megan Travis Chappell, Michael Travis, Katrinia Papineau Dawson, Heather Papineau Shelton, Glenn Alan Papineau, John Michael Papineau, Christian Papineau Hayes, Chloe Beth Papineau, 22 great-grandchildren Courtney, Kayleigh, Dustin, David, Natalin, Kirsten, Landon, Lawson, Kaylyn, Dayton, Chloe, Hunter, Conner, Alyssa, Katy Beth, Walker, Arya, Ayeden, Braden, Bryson, Matthew, Gabriel, 1 great-great-grandchild Aurora. She is preceded in death by her parents Joe and LaVaun Demers, her husband Gerald Papineau, her son Glenn Papineau, grandson Gerald Paul Papineau II, son-in-law Alva Ray Rich, 2 sister-in-law's Jenora Demers and June Demers.
In her lifetime she was a waitress at Redwood Restaurant in Diamond, factory worker at GE in Madisonville, a Pediatric RN and a volunteer at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. She was the oldest living member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Providence. If you were her friend, you were her friend for life.
Funeral Mass will be Monday, December 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Providence with Father David Kennedy and Deacon Mike Marsili officiating.
Burial will follow in New Clay Cemetery in Clay. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM till service time at Holy Cross Catholic Church.
