Richard Daryl Martin (RD), 79, of Overland Park, KS passed away on April 2, 2025 after a brief illness.
Richard was born in Evansville, IN on September 12, 1945. Raised in Providence, KY, he graduated from Providence High School in 1963. He joined the United States Air Force in February 1964 and served his country until February 1968. Settling in St. Louis, he entered the work force with McDonnell Douglas. Shortly afterwards he came home to Providence to take a position with Alcoa in Newburgh, IN. It was then that he met the love of his life and future wife, Pamela Hackney. They married in 1970 and eventually moved to Newburgh, IN where they raised a family and lived for 40 years. While working full time he continued his education attending Indiana State University and receiving his Master of Science degree. Richard retired from Alcoa in 1999 after 30 years. Not one to rest too long, he took a position with Fluor Corporation and worked there for the next 12 years. In 2017, Richard and his wife, Pam, moved to Overland Park, KS to be closer to family.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents (Clarence, Mina) and sister (Norma Jean). He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pamela, his son, Jamie (Dean), his daughter, Rebecca (Mark), his beloved granddaughter, Ella Josey, his brothers, Clarence "Jr" (Trisha) and James "Jimmy" Fred (Jo), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay. Burial to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery near Blackford where Military Honors will be conducted at the gravesite. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 8, 2025 4:00 PM till 8:00 PM and from 9:00 AM till service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Richard was a member of Providence Masonic Lodge #148; there will be Masonic Rites at 6:00 PM on Tuesday evening during the visitation.
