May 20, 1948 – February 2, 2025
Steven Carroll Bumpus, 76 of Clay passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Lucy Smith King Care Center in Henderson.
Steve was born in Henderson on May 20, 1948 to the late James Carroll and Edith Bumpus.
He was in the United States Army and was in Vietnam. He received the purple heart and bronze star and was a Buck Seargeant. Steve was a coal miner and worked for Peabody Camp 2, Eagle Valley, P & M and he retired from Highland Mines. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Providence.
Along with his parents Steve is preceded in death by a daughter Tammy in 1971, son Steven in 1973 and sister Ellen Berry in 2008.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years Carolyn, daughter Beverly Newman (Jesse) of Madisonville, 6 brothers Jim Bumpus (Nancy), Jeff Bumpus both of Dixon, Glenn Bumpus (Karla) of Marion, Jerry Bumpus (Molly) of Morganfield, David Bumpus (Cindy) of Slaughters, Jason Bumpus (Kim) of Clay and 3 grandchildren Caden Campbell, Ethan Campbell and Logan Newman.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Providence with Brother Johnnie Davis and Brother David Bumpus officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Dixon. There will be Military Rites at the gravesite. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 5, 2025 3:00 PM till 8:00 PM and from 8:00 AM till service time at the church.
