Wilburn Hammack Shields, 95, of Clay, KY passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at his residence.

Wilburn was born July 28, 1922 to John and Georgia Shields.  He was a member of Little Zion General Baptist Church in Dixon, KY.  He was a farmer, worked for Webster County Coal and drove a school bus for Webster County Board of Education.  He loved his family and enjoyed watching UK basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Shields is preceded in death by his wife Naomi Ray Shields in 1997 and 1 sister Charlene Bumpus in 2017.

Survivors include 1 daughter Kafie McDowell (Mike) of Clay, KY 1 son Robert B. Shields of Los Angeles, CA 2 granddaughters Amy Mathena (Dennis) and Melinda Gilliam (Nick) 5 great-grandchildren Laura, Cadence, Sara, Megan and Bryce Gilliam and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay, KY with Dr. Curtis Yarbrough officiating.  Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery in Clay, KY.  Visitation will be Friday, November 10, 2017 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Vanover Funeral Home and 9:00 AM til service time at the funeral home.
