George Elmer Cowen

George Elmer Cowen, 87, of Cadiz, KY went to be with the Lord on Thursday July 21, 2022. Mr. Cowen graduated from Clay High School and served in the U. S. Army with honor and pride. He was a member of the United Auto Workers and retired from General Motors in Anderson, IN after 30 years with the company. Mr. Cowen enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing on Lake Barkley and hunting. In recent years, one of his greatest joys was attending services and fellowship at his church, Word of Hope, in Cadiz, KY.

Mr. Cowen is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Edna Shields Cowen and siblings Gideon Ernest “Gid” Cowen, Gary Cecil Cowen and Linda Cowen O’Reilly.

Mr. Cowen is survived by his loving wife, Nadine, of 52 years; three daughters: Ruthie (Jack) Edwards of Waddy KY, Dora (Ricky) Cobb of Frankfort KY and Cheryl (Sylvester) Oldham of Cadiz KY; one son:  Elmer “Butch” Cowen of Henderson, KY one sister Rosie Stewart of Frankfort, KY as well as eight grandchildren and great grandchildren who all knew him as “Pappy George” or “Papaw”.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay with Bro. Gene Oller officiating.  Burial to follow in New Clay Cemetery.  Visitation will be Saturday 10:00 AM til service time at the funeral home.
