McGennis "Mac" Adair Obituary

McGennis “Mac” Adair, Jr. 71 of Morganfield passed away Monday, November 7, 2022 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville.

Mac was born in Mt Vernon, OH on October 17, 1951 to McGennis Edward and Phyllis Jean Adair, Sr.

He was a member of Primitive Baptist Church, he was founder of the JR Pro Youth Basketball organization for the state of Kentucky.  For his volunteer efforts with JR Pro Basketball within the state and community he was designated as honorary Kentucky Colonel by the State.

He was dedicated Mason.  He was a member of Dixon Masonic Lodge #911, appointed twice as District Deputy Grand Master for district 5.  He was also a member of the West Kentucky Scottish Rite and ambassador for Masonic Homes for district 5 in Western Kentucky.

Mac was a proud, retired UMWA (United Mine Workers of America) affiliate.  He worked at Island Creek Hamilton #1 coal mine.

He and his wife (Jane) of 50 years owned and operated Bud’s Country Corner in Boxville for many years.

Mac is preceded in death by his father McGennis E. Adair, Sr.

Survivors include his wife Patricia Jane Adair, a daughter Ara Lee Shirel (B.Wade Shirel) of Morganfield, son Cyree Tyrie Adair (Sarah Lynn Blakeley) of Lebanon, IN,   mother Phyllis Jean Adair of Morganfield, sister Sherry Jean Harley (Robert T. Harley) of Kissemee, FL, 4 grandchildren Wade Adair, Merrigan  Shirel, Camden Adair, Traxxus  Shirel and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay with Bro. Aaron Williams, Bro Phillip Flannary and Bro. Travis Davis officiating.  Burial to follow in Boxville Oddfellows David Rest Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday, November 11, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Masonic Rites will be at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Visitation Saturday morning will be 8:00 AM til service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Mac Adair Diabetes Memorial Fund, c/o 5/3 Bank, 250 N. Morgan Street, Morganfield, KY 42437.
