Phyllis Jean (Keene) Adair

Ruth Phyllisjean Keene Adair, 91, of Morganfield, KY, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Baptist Health Deaconess Hospital in Madisonville.  Phyllis was born in Dan, Virginia on September 19, 1931, to Thomas and Lucretia Keene.  She was a member of the Pilgrim’s Rest Primitive Baptist Church.  She was joined in marriage to McGennis Edward Adair on December 25, 1947, and enjoyed 58 wonderful years until McGennis passed in 2006.  They moved to central Ohio in 1950 and lived most their years on a farm outside of Centerburg, OH.  Phyllis and McGennis had two children, Sherry Jean and McGennis, Jr. whom they raised there.  Phyllis earned her cosmetology degree in August 1960 and worked for Merle Norman Cosmetic and Beauty Shop for 9 years.  She opened her own shop in 1970.  She was an avid traveler having visited 49 of the 50 states.  Phyllis was an excellent and accomplished cook.  She was a devoted wife to McGennis Adair, caring for him through a long illness until his passing.  She was also preceded in death by her son McGennis Adair, Jr. and her four siblings.  She is survived by her daughter Sherry Harley and son-in-law Robert; her daughter-in-law Patricia Jane Adair; grandchildren Cyree Adair and fiancé Sarah; Jean Michelle Harley Stonebraker and spouse Christian; Phyllis Harley Green and spouse Bruce; Wesley Harley; and Ara Adair Shirel and spouse Wade; and great-grandchildren Shawn Green, Ryan Green, Ashley Harley, Wade Adair, Merrigan Shirel, Camden Adair, Christian Harley, Traxxas Shirel, William McGennis Harley, and Freya Green as well as numerous loving great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. 

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV.  Burial will be in Short Ridge Cemetery in Avondale, WV.  Visitation will be at 11:00 AM till service time at Fanning Funeral Home.  There will be visitation 4:00 PM till 7:00 PM Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay, KY.
