Lydia Herron Kasmann

89, passed away February 10, 2017 in Louisville, KY formerly of Clay, KY

Lydia was well known in Louisville as the longtime ice skating instructor at Gardiner Lane Ice Rink.  She also taught ice skating in Evansville, IN, before moving to Louisville.  During her 50 years of teaching she trained hundreds, if not thousands of students, some achieving national status, as well as coached many precision skating teams for competition and exhibitions.  She stayed on the ice coaching until the age of 80.  Before coming to America, Lydia competed for Germany in both ice and roller skating and excelled in track and field, as well as was accomplished at snow and water skiing.  She was a true athlete.

Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her will tell you she always had a smile on her face, kind words and could light up any room she entered.  She was "Feisty and Fun."  She remained active in her German clubs, ladies' golf group, various social clubs and church groups at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Bardstown Road.

Lydia was born in Nurnberg, Germany to Martin and Marie Kasmann and arrived in Kentucky as a war bride.  She had a long and happy 51 years of marriage to husband, Leo Herron, who preceded her in death.  Surviving are their two children, Trudy Moneyhan (husband Allan) of Suffolk, Virginia and Erick Herron of Louisville.  She adored her granddaughters, Chelsey Thomas (husband Matt) of McLean, Virginia and Annsley Atkin of St. Petersburg, Florida and loved spoiling her great-grandchildren, James Campbell and Lydia of Leesburg, Virginia.  She also leaves family in Kentucky, Bill and Scarlett Herron, Holly and Billy Adams, Lana Herron (Bob Herron) of Ohio and Kassmann family in Germany.
